# Markdown

> Markdown syntax supported in e-mails, notifications and formatted Note fields: bold and italic text, links, line breaks, headings, lines, tables, and embedded YouTube videos.

Markdown is a syntax to format plain text in your [E-mails](set_actions/send_a_mail.md), [Notifications](notifications.md), and content in [Note](field_types.md#note) fields that have the **Display as formatted text** property set in [Form designer](form_designer.md).

## Formatted text and embedded link

Examples of the syntax to the left; to the right, the preview:

| Syntax | Preview |
| --- | --- |
| `**Server downtime notification**` | **Server downtime notification** |
| `*Dear users:*` | _Dear users:_ |
| `We are planning a server restart on:` | We are planning a server restart on: |
| `1. November the 25th.` | 1\. November the 25th. |
| `2. December the 2nd.` | 2\. December the 2nd. |
| `For more information, contact:` | For more information, contact: |
| `* John Smith` | ° John Smith |
| `Or read [here](http://www.google.com)` | Or read [here](http://www.google.com). |

## Line breaks

_Line breaks_ are done differently depending on if it is written **note fields**, **labels** or **emails**.

For **note field** and **labels**, a _line break_ is automatically done when adding a line break. E.g.,

```
Line 1
Line 2
```

In the case of the **label**, its property "Display as formatted text" must be set.

For **emails**, a _line break_ is done by adding two spaces after the first line and then adding a regular line break. E.g.,

```
Line 1<space><space>
Line 2
```

Both examples gives the following markdown result

Line 1
Line 2

## Headings

It is possible to add different sizes of _headings_ with:

```
# Heading1
## Heading2
### Heading3
```

## Line

Enter three underscore characters `___` to draw a line.

## Tables

_Tables_ can be structured like following:

```
|**Header Col1**|**Header Col2**|
|-|-|
| Row1 - Col1 | Row1 - Col2 |
| Row2 - Col1 | Row2 - Col2 |
| Row3 - Col1 | Row3- Col2 |
```

To look like this:

## Embedded Youtube videos

To embed YouTube videos, use a Label component, tick the **Display as formattedtext** box and set the **Caption** to `@[youtube]` followed by the ID of the video, e.g.:

```
@[youtube](JEXCVMjdVQg)
```

> **Note:**
>
> the ID of the video is taken from the URL. Copy the sequence after "v=" in the URL. In this case, from this: _[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEXCVMjdVQg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEXCVMjdVQg)_.
>
> When the URL extends beyond the video ID, then look out for the '&' character. The ID stops right before it. E.g., _[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EqSXDwTq6U&ab\_channel=jasminmakeup](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EqSXDwTq6U&ab_channel=jasminmakeup)_ gives the ID **0EqSXDwTq6U**.
