# Lists

> Create and manage dropdown lists in the IS Tools data model editor. Add, edit, and link list items to Drop-down fields for structured data entry.

[Application configuration](application_configuration.md) > [Data model editor](data_model_editor.md) > Lists

Fields of type [Drop-down](field_types.md#_drop_down) limit entries to certain items. These items are contained in lists defined and associated with the Drop-down by the administrator.

## Create a list and items

Click on the **Lists** tab. To add a new list, click on the ![BlackPlusIcon](_images/BlackPlusIcon.png) icon, type the desired name (e.g., _"List of services"_, overriding the original _"New list"_ name) and hit Enter.

Then, add items to the list by clicking on the ![BlackPlusIcon](_images/BlackPlusIcon.png) icon of the **List items** tab, type the desired name (e.g., _"Installation"_, _"Upgrade"_ and _"Repair"_) and hit Enter.

Finally, click **Save** at the top of the **Data model editor** to keep the changes.

## Edit a list and items

Click on the **Lists** tab. To change the name of a list or an item, double-click its current name and type a new one.

To change the order of items, select one and drag and drop it to the desired position. You can also use the ![SortAlphabetically](_images/SortAlphabetically.png) Sort alphabetically icon, in case you need to sort them all at once.

> **Note:**
>
> Note that the editing of the **Type** property, or the **Parent items** property (via the ![AssignParents](_images/AssignParents.png) icon), is part of the [Linked drop-down](fields.md#_link_a_drop_down_field) functionality configuration.

Save changes by clicking **Save** at the top of the **Data model editor**.

## Delete or remove a list and items

Click on the **Lists** tab.

For deletion, select the list or the item you wish and click the corresponding ![DeleteNDME](_images/DeleteNDME.png) icon.

> **Note:**
>
> A List that is associated with a Drop-down cannot be deleted. For that, go to the **Tables** tab, select the table, select the drop-down in the **Fields** tab and then remove the list from the [List/Parent table](fields.md#list_parent_table) setting.
>
> Note that the items contained in a deleted list are also deleted, except for those that are marked as _Parent item_ in **Type**, which will be displayed in **Lists**.

Save changes by clicking **Save** at the top of the **Data model editor**.

## Link a list and items

See [Link a drop-down field](fields.md#_link_a_drop_down_field).
